HEAL for Reentry Employment & Education Specialist

Native American Reentry Services is seeking applicants for the Iron House Medicine Program Manager position. This person will closely collaborate and engage with key stakeholders, the HEAL for Reentry program, and community programs to fully support NARS vision, mission, and core values. Native American Reentry Services is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to address barriers faced by Native people struggling to transition from a life of incarceration to one of healthy and productive freedom. We support successful reintegration into Native American/Aboriginal reservation and urban communities and reduce recidivism through Native American/Aboriginal traditional means.
Native American Reentry Services HEAL for Reentry Employment Specialist position closely collaborates and engages with key tribal stakeholders and community programs to fully support NARS vision, mission, and core values.
Position Summary:
Provides hands on training services consistent with an individual strengths, resources, and abilities so that they may prepare for or engage in gainful employment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Weekly face to face community employer outreach
Conduct assessments, determine eligibility for employment/education programs and enroll individuals.
Counsel job/education seeking clients in vocational, employment, and education issues. Mediate, problem-solve and coordinate individual services.
Establishes, maintains, and updates files, databases, records, and/or other documents.
Group classes in support of education/employment, including application and resume, budgeting, financial, scholarships, etc.
Generate leads of potential employers to generate job placements
Maintain up-to-date case records and progress documentation on behalf of clients
Manage caseload and required monthly service hours and develop weekly schedule to meet customer needs
Develop effective short and long term education/employment plans with clients to meet their long term goals of self sufficiency. Assist clients in finding appropriate short term training and financial assistance in high demand occupations.
· Process and manage support service and/or training/tuition funds.
· Develop positive relationships with WorkSource, DSHS, colleges, community partners and employers.
· Provide employment services including: resume & cover letter review, application planning, job search skills, acting as a reference, etc.
Manage caseload, providing case management, facilitating appropriate support services.
Identifying, evaluating and exploring solutions to assist in removing barriers, assisting in obtaining needed documentation.
Create and disseminate program reports as required by supervisors and managers.
Respond promptly to e-mails, phone messages, and mail.
Participate in meetings in an active, cooperative and courteous manner.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of records management.
Ability to operate various word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software programs.
Ability to use good judgment, analyze, and solve problems.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to work with incarcerated Native American and Indigenous individuals and their communities; aptitude for working effectively with an interest in the reentry needs of Iron House Medicine and HEAL for Reentry program participants; demonstrate emotional stability; adaptability; firmness; patience; self-control; tact; good communication skills; good judgment in moral, ethical, and spiritual matters; ability to independently travel to prison sites statewide
Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s license and have proof of auto insurance.

Desired Education & Experience
Preference for applicants with a background in helping people find work and advance their careers, employer networking, and connecting clients to training or education programs.
Education includes current courses of study towards degrees.
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Administration, Human Services or related field with professional work experience providing program management and/or facilitating organizational change
